| | A Capella | | © Wojtek Siudmak | Regarding Wojtek Siudmak, one could say thousand things that would be more eulogistic, evoke his atypical career or the way he has marked the world of fantasy art these last decades. One could fill with wonder in front of his blue and brown monochromes and his prolific imagination, but I would rather talk about him in a more personal way: Utopiales 2001 in Nantes. I am waiting for W. Siudmak in the lounge of his hotel with an upset stomach and shaking legs. I had taken with me pictures of my work, the first paintings I had ever made but also a pack of questions and doubts. This memory is as clear as yesterday. It was my first appointment with him, followed by other meetings and many hours of exchange.
I was studying piano to become a concert artist and I did not dare believing I could ever work in the field of graphic arts. Within a few months following his advice and encouragements, I started my career as a painter. Although his paintings were already wonderful gifts, he gave me even more: he enabled me to spread my wings. |
