Attracted first of all by the color, I neglected the importance of the line for a long time. At present, the sketch is one of my favorite expressions which I hope to be able to develop more; I immensely admire the vibrating and organic line of those of Alan Lee, almost more than his watercolours. The white sheet is always an interrogation, and the hesitant pencil line, heading in the unknown areas is the beginning of an answer. Sketches may be another magic which escapes from the completed painting of which they are the preludes: a characteristic touch of life, freshness, spontaneousness...
